Stuffed Sausage & Spinach Bread

See also

My friend’s mom had made this recipe once years ago and I always remembered how good it tasted! So I made it myself from memory, and it was a big hit! Folks who think they don't like spinach are in for a surprise when they try it. This sausage bread is great for serving as a side dish with pasta.

What You Need:
(Makes: 10 servings)

1 pound of bulk Italian sausage
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of dried basil
1 loaf (1 pound) of frozen bread dough, thawed
1 package (10 ounces) of frozen spinach, thawed and well-drained
2 cups (8 ounces) of shredded mozzarella cheese

What to Do:
In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Sprinkle with salt and basil; set aside.

STEP 2) Roll out the bread dough into a 13x10 inch rectangle. Sprinkle with sausage mixture. Top with spinach; sprinkle with cheese. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seams to seal and tuck ends under.

STEP 3) Place the dough seam side down on a greased baking sheet. Bake bread at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Serve warm. Refrigerate leftovers.

STEP 4) Enjoy!
