Congo is exhausted after his Kong chewing.
Kongs are hard, rubber toys that stand up to a great deal of chewing and playing. They have a hollow center that may be stuffed with various yummies, and they bounce quite dramatically when tossed about on a hard floor. Kongs are available in different degrees for "standard" chewers, "power" chewers, and even puppies. Dogs need various types of interactions to stimulate their minds and enhance their thinking abilities. Kongs provide a wonderful stimulation tool as well as being an energy reducer and dog occupier.
Kongs may be purchased at any pet store, such as Molly and Max Pet Boutique in Birmingham, or any Petsmart, Pet Supplies Plus, or Petco. A great place to purchase Kongs, and other pet supplies, is Jeffers Pet located in Dothan, Alabama. When ordering from anywhere in Alabama, shipping is usually 1 day. Jeffers Pet prices are much lower than the other brick and mortar stores.
After purchasing the correct Kong sized to be slightly larger than the dog's pallet, stuff it with various dog healthy snacks. Kong Company makes Kong stuffings but those are not necessary to a great Kong experience. A yummy Kong stuffer is stale cereal (preferably not sugary, just a plain Cheerio type) mixed with peanut butter and honey. Stuff the Kong with this mix and top it off with a biscuit. The dogs will love it. Another easy Kong stuffing is small dog biscuits, such as the small size Mother Hubbard, stuffed to the top and capped with a tablespoon of peanut butter. For dogs who aren't huge peanut butter fans, velveeta cheese, yogurt, or other soft food may be used.
Always supervise dogs with any toy, including Kongs. Even the most durable toy may be destroyed by a powerful chewer. Once it is reasonably certain that the dog won't destroy the Kong, he may be left with one to occupy him while his owners are away.
