As Democrats continue senselessly plunging our nation into the very same kind of left-wing fiscal insanity and government-run everything that has utterly devastated cities like Detroit, it is worth noting that the ten most bankrupt states in the country right now are also run by liberals...or they are border states being systematically decimated by the left's persistent attempts to import an underclass of 15 million new Democrat voters.
The study, conducted by the Pew Center on the States, found that California, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island and Wisconsin are among the most bankrupt states in the country. The only ones not run top-to-bottom by Democrats were Arizona, Florida and Nevada...all of which have huge illegal immigration problems.
Bravo, liberals. Way to show us evil, misguided proponents of the free market how it's done.

Last I checked there were Republican governors in Rhode Island, Nevada, Arizona, Florida and -- oh yeah -- California. You know, the state that the whole damned study is based on. In other words, five of the worst 10 states are headed up by the GOP, not 'liberals.' Your thesis is pretty empty. Have you even read the report? Or are illegal immigrants responsible for you not bothering to read it?
It's the legislatures that are controlled by democrats. It is in the legislature that all SPENDING and TAXING originate. A republican governor who vetoes an out of control legislature's spending can be overridden. Just because a politician is a republican it doesn't mean they are a conservative or desire to be constrained by a law, i.e state and federal constitutions.
The 2010 census gives far more accurate proof that States controlled by democrat legislatures are going bankrupt, where the converse is true of states with conservative legislatures.
I do hope that those bankrupt states have to end up raising taxes on ALL their citizens so they can ALL feel the pain caused by voting democrat. Citizens in states that have been responsible should not be required to have tax dollars used to bail out bankrupt states.
California's governor is technically a Republican, although he has basically been a lapdog for the radical leftists who control the state legislature and have destroyed the state's economy.

The legislature controls the purse strings; a governor is just a figurehead. Furthermore, the Republican governors are RINOS, and certainly NOT conservatives. It's a difference between liberalism and conservativism. The liberal states are failing, the conservatives states are not.
Liberal legislatures spend, spend, spend like drunking teenagers with a credit card. Interestingly, their political ideology also sounds like it came from the mouth of a drunken fool.
It's as simple as that.

State legislatures write and pass laws, not governors. California is in the financial mess that it's in because tax-and-spend liberals have ruled that state's legislature for quite some time now.
Wow!! It's so true and so simple that most Americans have probably missed it completely. Almost all of the bankrupt states are run by liberals. Keep voting for the far left, and either be completely out on the streets or dependent on the government for scraps.STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES.
Bradely, don't cite California as if you know anything about it. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been fighting the leftist dictatorship from the moment he came into office. We had our drivers registration cut in more than half because of him, while the liberal Gray Davis, bowing to the leftist morons would have had poor Californians paying three times as much. The Governor is not in control in most ot the states you mention. They are run by Democratic leftist dictatorships.

Bobby, I often agree with your posts, but today you're missing a critical point. Ahnohd may do a few little things for R voters, but he is owned. That's how he came out of Nowhere to be a governor. Case in Point: If he cared about America and Americans, he would have done something about the illegal problem and Cali would not be in debt(owned) by JP MORGAN (MoneyPower).
No, Bobby, Hey I agree completely with you. Schwarzenegger didn't simply come out of nowhere. But can we really blame someone, who, having been placed in office with a completely controled Democrat State legislature, and at a time when the State has been inundated for some forty years by illegal alien foreign nationals, when they can't do much about it??
The Democrats have controled California for forty plus years now and it shows. California used to be a Republican State. It built universities, roads, freeways, fantastic infrastructure--all under Republican supervision. The Democrats, when gaining power have used almost all of California's resources to pay for illegal aliens families, and for absurd pensions that, it is true the Republicans created and the Democrats continued to create. All said, I agree with you totally about Schwarzenegger, but public pressure at least allowed him to cut car registration that helped millions of people.

Good story, as I read the Pew report I was thinking the same thing. Democrats are clueless. The only answer they have is to spend more money.
The remedy is public forums, trading information, finding out just what happens to the money, and what kind of dope the management is smoking(NOT necessarily an exaggeration). www.grossnegligence.gov doesn't cut the mustard, when you're talking about the future well-being of the citizens, and keeping the books open and transparent. Whether you count yourself liberal, conservative, or otherwise, the basic problem of public accountability and transparency remains, we've seen what corruption has done for states like Louisiana, let's not let it happen in Oregon.
Also, good point with the attempt to adulterate the voting demographics. Unfortunately, you were only partly accurate, because in our state, we had Smith, who ran his ag business using illegal labor, typically from Mexico.
Oregon is a good state. Oregon now also has a LARGE state budget, the disposition of which isn't entirely clear, but seems to generally be centered around the wonderful world(s) of medicine, and education, both which seem to be having 'problems' of late, if you read the news, in terms of their simply being used as fairly spendy jobs programs, with questionable direct benefit to the public. That, and there's a substantial and growing public welfare program growing in Oregon, and welfare is antithetical to the basic work ethic. Call it socialism, call it what you want, Oregon's got the same problem as CA, probably at least due in part to its' direct physical proximity to CA(Socialist People's Republic Of). But, what's the remedy? What shape shall reform take?
Detroit has been liberal-run since the early 60's. Look at it now. Look at the proven results of liberal programs. No, Detroit isn't the only victim, there are many others. But looking at this one city is more than enough evidence that liberalism is a cancer to a strong & free America. I'm talking parties here, I'm talking about liberal vs conservative. Conservatism has proven to work much better.
It's amazing and mind-boggling how liberals insist it's somebody elses fault that THEIR programs have all failed miserably. Why can't they just face facts & turn from the liberal, America-destroying ideology that their magic koolaid convinced them was so "good"??? Liberals are the most hateful, most childish, most intolerant and most hypocritical creatures to ever inhabit the earth. So much so, they trip all over themselves tyring to point their bloody fingers at anyone & everyone but themselves.
