Young parents in Chicago need to take note to recent report. Youngsters who eat healthier diets are linked to higher IQ. If those with poor diets improve their diet by age eight they still have lower IQ, the University of Bristol found. A diet high in processed food including white flour, white sugar and these types of foods that are striped of nutrition are bad. A healthier diet of wholesome fruits and vegetables are more beneficial. Try to follow the rule of five fruit and vegetables a day and whole grain starchy foods.
The brain grows fastest up to three. “Good nutrition in this period may encourage optimal brain growth.” Says Dr. Kate Northstone.
Other studies have reported that breastfeeding helps to boost IQ. Some young parents may not realize these important factors in a child’s eating habits and need to be educated. It is so easy these days to stop in the local fast food place and pick a quick meal that people tend to fall off from the routine of preparing nutritious meals. People tend to reward children sometimes with candy, potato chips and sugary soda pop. These are the bad habits that need to be broken. Replace the junk food with an apple, some grapes or dried cranberries as a special treat. Children learn from what they see, so parents have to be the model of eating healthy foods. If the parent never eats green vegetables then the children will never pick up the habit either.
Parents have to commit to finding the best recipes and homemade baby foods for their children to get them on a healthy start, this has so many benefits. Supplements are available for children also so they can get their multi-vitamins and minerals needed on a regular basis.
