Spend less time working out and burn more fat by sprinting, say experts at the University of New South Wales. NBC reported yesterday that a university study showed that exercisers who use interval training burn more fat than those who use steady state training. Interval training is a form of training which involves alternating between intense bursts of activity (sprints) and short easy recovery intervals. Interval training can be done in just about any sport or on any piece of exercise equipment.
It's a mind trick that appears to work. Researchers at an Australian University found people who rode for 40 minutes at a steady pace - lost an average of two pounds.
Another group that rode just 20 minutes alternating between eight second sprints and 12 seconds of slower riding lost an average of six pounds. (NBC news)
Interval training is also a great way to prevent boredom. Begin your own interval training program to lose weight and stay fit with any of these workouts.
