StudioCanal is moving forward with a reboot of Cliffhanger

StudioCanal's long expedition to reboot the 1993 Renny Harlin film 'Cliffhanger' is nearing the finish line.

Producer Neal Moritz and StudioCanal are readying their re-imaging of the 90s action film, this news comes from Deadline.

Moritz and StudioCanal tasked screenwriter Joe Gazam to pen the screenplay for the rock-climbing action film. Gazam was among of group of screenwriters vying for the job, each pitching their own take on the Harlin-directed original.

There is no current domestic distributor attached to the project, however, Moritz' Original Pictures is based with Sony Pictures Entertainment, which will more than likely have first dibs on the reboot.

The original 'Cliffhanger' starred Sylvester Stallone as Gabe Walker a mountain climber that after a traumatic event, steps away from mountain climbing. Walker is pulled back into it when he must stop a group of mercenaries out to recover a 100 million dollars in stolen money that was lost on a botched robbery attempt on a plane.

No word yet on plot details for the reboot.
