Studio Ghibli event in New York City

New York International Children's Film Festival will be hosting a twenty-five year retrospective of some of Japan's most celebrated, animated films from the famous Studio Ghibli. The event will include fifteen films from the years 1984 to 2009 on all new 35mm prints, and will also be hosting the North American premieres of Only Yesterdayand Ocean Waves.

Films will be screening from December 16th to January 12th with multiple shows a day. IFC Center will be offering movies dubbed into English, especially beneficial for younger audiences, and will host the films in their original Japanese dialogue with subtitles after 6PM.

Films included in this event will be: Castle in the Sky, The Cat Returns, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Ocean Waves, Only Yesterday, Pom Poko, Ponyo, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Whisper of the Heart.

Studio Ghibli was founded in June of 1985 and is run by the directors, Hayao Miyazaki (most famous for films such as My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away) and Isao Takahata and producer, Toshio Suzuki. The studio has received numerous awards and recognition over the years, including Best Picture at the Japanese Academy Awards (Princess Mononoke,) Animation of the Year at the Tokyo International Anime Fair (Howl's Moving Castle) and Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards (Spirited Away.)
