Ursula Undress is mastermind behind the new Studio Burlesque an new dance and exercise studio for women from all over the city to come and learn burlesque, get in shape and have a damn fine time doing it! Located in West Midtown, Atlanta GA, it is a beautiful studio where women can be empowered with the art and poise of the tease! I had chat with Ms Ursula Undress, and here’s a few tidbits that she just had to share.
Tell me about Studio Burlesque, what are your goals behind the space?
Basically, it is the first and only all-burlesque studio in Atlanta. It is a place that anyone can come and learn what we do, hone their skills, or just gain the stamina, confidence, and grace that burlesque offers. I also have the goal of creating an environment that fosters growth and love in the Burlesque Community here. I am VERY passionate about creating a place that is this amazing, Burlesque haven, that everyone will be excited about, and everyone - all levels of interest and experience - can learn and grow in.
How are the classes being taught at the studio different than the classes that have been taught previously?
Well, these are more movement heavy. This is where you go to really get down and dirty with the different movement styles, postures, and moves in Burlesque. There is no real emphasis on becoming an actual performer in these classes, so it is open to anyone who will want to just take classes to have fun. However, if you are wanting to become a performer, we will also offer a regular Performance Track curriculum to whomever wants to get into the biz entertainment - and do it all year long. And I have the BEST possible teachers working with me, which is just amazing. I really feel blessed!
Do you have any advice for the new crop of students?
Just come out! The classes are fun! They are accessible to anyone! If you aren't sure how deep into Burlesque you actually want to get, the movement classes will let you flirt enough with the idea without a lot of commitment. And if you know you want to dive right in, it is the only place to do that. Just take one class, and you will seriously be hooked on that confidence and sensuality that can't help but come out.
