Old School Square Cultural Center is inviting student participation in the Florida debut of "Give Peace a Chance: John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1969 Bed-in for Peace" exhibition Oct. 5 - 11, 2009.

Photos in the exhibit, which was shown in Liverpool and at The Museum at Bethel Woods, (Woodstock site) NY, will displayed in Old School Square’s Vintage Gymnasium in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Montreal Bed-in for Peace and what would have been Lennon’s 69th birthday on October 9.

The display will feature 30 large format photographs taken by Gerry Deiter on assignment for LIFE magazine,  contributor interviews, music, memorabilia and interpretative illustrations. Visitors will also have the opportunity to place their written message for world peace on a Wish Tree which will be sent to Yoko Ono and enter the recreated bed-in suite from the Queen Elizabeth Hotel.

Student art submissions in conjunction with the exhibit are being sought. Accepted media includes drawings, paintings, collage and other 2-D art interpreting the theme "Give Peace a Chance—Images of World Peace. Artwork should be submitted on 9 x 12 construction paper and include the student’s name, age, address, phone, email (or parent’s name and email if under 16) with the submitted artwork.

Submit artwork to: Daphne Dowell, Education Coordinator, Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33444. Artwork will not be returned. Deadline for submission is September 28, 2009.
All student artwork will be hung in the exhibition for visitors to see. They will later be on display during Delray Beach’s First Night New Year’s Eve celebration. The submitted artwork may also be photographed and used for publicity purposes.
