How often does your child make a wish-list for their birthday or upcoming holiday?
WishToList – a free app for the iPhone/iPod/iPad – makes it fun for kids to create their own wish list, share it with their friends, and send the final list to their parents.
An after-school club project at the Cushman School in Miami, FL, WishToList was built by kids, for kids. Over the course of two months, 4th through 8th grade students met with Marty Schultz (parent and software engineer), three times each week, to brainstorm, design, built and test the app.
“The kids came up with lots of great ideas in the app – sharing their wish lists with their friends, commenting on their friend’s gift ideas, seeing a list of the most popular toys, taking photos of things they want, searching for toys on the web – the list went on and on, and most of their ideas are in WishToList!” said Schultz.
“When you watch a kid first start playing with the app”, continued Schultz, “you can tell that they are enjoying themselves.” Children can tell that WishToList was designed by their peers.
“Now all the students at the school are excited about how popular the app has become. We post the number of new kids who started using WishToList each week.”
According to Head of School Arvi Balsiero “Our goal in creating this club was to combine children of different ages with different ideas to develop creative solutions that led to a marketable product,” explained Balsiero. “Students can’t obtain hands-on exposure like this through books alone.”
The Cushman School is a private school which serves Nursery through 8th grades. It is located at 592 NE 60th Street in Miami.
