Students at Arizona school go shoeless for Light Feet Project

Tempe-- Students attending a Tempe school go shoeless for the day to support a good cause. Students left their shoes behind today to bring awareness to homeless children, many of which don't have shoes. The students are working in collaboration with the Light Feet Project to collect new and gently used shoes for children in need.

Light Feet Project

The Light Feet Project arranges boxes and flyers for shoe drives, which are hosted at local churches, schools and organizations in an effort to collect new and gently used shoes for children in need. After the shoes have been collected, the sorting process begins, where the shoes are then paired with socks and shoelaces to ship to Children of the Nation and Soles4Souls,Inc. The shoes are then distributed to children in need of a decent pair of shoes.

In 2010, the Light Feet Project collected 5,008 pairs of shoes, and this year they hope to double that amount by collecting 10,000 pairs of shoes. As of September 21st, the Light Feet Project surpassed the halfway mark with 5766 pairs of shoes. Over 4,000 shoes are still needed for the 2011 goal to be met.
