October 5, 1918- Spanish Influenza rapidly spreads inside Pittsburgh's classrooms.

With 40 men already in the hospital military authorities at Tech and Pitt quickly established quarantine zones at the Oakland campuses.

Margaret Morrison was considered to be in an isolated area so was not quarantined at that point.

Major W.E. Day, a Pittsburgh physician took charge of the quarantine.  Flu victims were moved from the barracks to the second floor of the Elizabeth Steel Morrison Hospital.

At the University of Pittsburgh, the boundary of the quarantine extended from the corner of Fifth Ave. & Bigelow Blvd. to the steps in the rear of State Hall to the corner of Breckenridge street to the rear of the Mess Hall, along the guard line to Laboratory B to the cemetery fence in the rear of the track house to Aliquippa street, to the steps leading down to Bouquet street, to Fifth Avenue at the corner of Bigelow.

The boundary at Tech extended around all of the buildings and Flag Staff Hill, Schenley Park.

Guards were stationed at paths leading to the Tech school buildings during the day.  Only instructors and employees were allowed to enter.  Military passes were required.  Guards were also placed at Pitt and passes were required.
