At its Android and Chrome event in San Francisco this week Google announced it is bringing textbooks to the Google Play store.
Students will soon be able to purchase and rent textbooks from Google for use on Android devices. Google focused on the fact that students can rent their textbooks on Google Play. Although it did not announce any prices, the Wochit Technology video attached to this article states that books are expected to rent and sell for an 80 percent discount compared to regular retail prices. The new service will launch in August.
The five major textbook publishers are Pearson, Wiley, Macmillian Higher Education, McGraw-Hill and Cengage Learning.
