With barely any time between this notification and the one preceding it at the end of last quarter, the Cal Poly community was informed of the death of yet another Cal Poly student. Sent out by the Office of the President, Cal Poly members were given the sad news that follows about a senior whose life was tragically taken this past weekend. For the sake of the student's family and friends, their name has been removed.

Dear Cal Poly Students, Faculty, and Staff:

One of our students was involved in a vehicle/pedestrian accident that took [their] life on Saturday, February 8, 2014, in San Luis Obispo, California. [The student] was a senior in the Orfalea College of Business and hailed from [Northern California].

We are sorry that we have to share this sad news, but we feel it is important to remind each of you that your university is always here to support you. Counseling Services is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling (805) 756-2511. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

Our thoughts are with [the student's] family and friends during this difficult time. Please know that we care about each member of the Cal Poly community. If there are other ways in which we can support you, please be sure to let us know.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey D. Armstrong
President

As always, students are encouraged to seek the university's counseling services to help grieve in a way they feel is appropriate. And for those who knew the student, the Cal Poly community sends its greatest condolences, and hopes that in time the sadness will grow to fondness for knowing a person who was surely a fantastic student, person, friend, and family member.
