Student banned from wearing t-shirt supporting abstinence

AllChristainnews.com reported on Feb, 28 that Summer Schreiner, a 15 year-old, 8th grader is upset because she was made to change her shirt. The shirt said, "Don't drink and park, accidents cause kids". @yahoo.com>

The Assistant Principal of Clearlake Middle of Brevard Public Schools in Florida stands behind his decision. He insists that the shirt is inappropriate because it references sexuality. @yahoo.com>

Summer who recieved the shirt the night before from a Christain conference that promotes abstinence only said, “It’s not like I was wearing a curse word or something that was promoting violence. It’s the shirt I got at a conference that is something that is very important to me.” @yahoo.com>

Summers mom, Angela Hogan contacted the school and complained because she felt as though her child was humiliated about something she believes in. @yahoo.com>

The director of communications for the school district, Michelle Irwin, said in response to the complaint, “This is not a situation of whether or not the district agrees or disagrees with sexual abstinence among teenagers. It’s about the fact there is sexual innuendo on the shirt, and so we believe it violated our dress code policy.” @yahoo.com>
