A 16-year-old student was struck and critically injured by a vehicle as he was walking to school early Tuesday morning in Gwinnett County.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. on Five Forks Trickum Road near the intersection of Arlene Court in Lilburn, according to Gwinnett County police.

Investigators said Jonathan Porter was walking to Parkview High School when he attempted to cross Five Forks Trickum Road in an area with no crosswalk.

He was struck by a 1998 Buick Century and transported by ambulance to Gwinnett Medical Center.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that there were no signs of excessive speed, alcohol or drugs on the part of the driver,” police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said. “The driver did stop at the scene and no charges are pending at this point, however, the investigation is ongoing.”

Investigators believe the teen was walking to Parkview High School where he is a student. A moment of silence was held for the Jonathan before a soccer game as classmates prayed for his recovery, according to Channel 2 Action News.
