Buying food directly from the people who grew it is not only fun, but it allows you to ask how the food is grown (organic or no?), what varieties of vegetables or fruits the farmer is growing, and oftentimes you can even ask for recipe suggestions! You may form relationships with your favorite vendors, purchase food that has usually just been harvested within the last 24 hours (or even just that morning!) and support your local economy.
A farm stand may even be more conveniently located than your nearest chain grocery; Stubbs Family Farm produce carts are all over the Miami Valley! The red-and-white striped awnings are appearing most anywhere you go – the Belmont neighborhood in south Dayton, downtown Dayton, Middletown, the Dayton VA, and many other locations.
Most recently this author ‘discovered’ them in Germantown. Noticing some beautiful produce being sold at the corner of N. Cherry and E. Market streets, it was a happy surprise to find that this is yet another location for the Stubbs Family Farm produce on Tuesday mornings! On Wednesday mornings, Stubbs Family farm makes an appearance at Triangle Station on route 4 South in Germantown, near the Fresh Market store.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays you can find them at the corner of Patterson Road and Wilmington Avenue in Dayton, and on Saturdays they are at the Webster Street Market in downtown Dayton.
Stubbs Family Farm currently has a fine selection of summer squash, tomatoes, peaches, Candy onions, green beans, spaghetti squash, and many other fine fruits and vegetables. Check out the delicious and nutrition produce at a Stubbs Family Farm stand near you!
