The electronic rock jam band STS9 (short for Sound Tribe Sector 9) announced late last night that they are cancelling their winter tour and parting ways with their bassist David Murphy. The band has cleared their current concert schedule of all shows before their scheduled appearance in late March at the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in Phoenix, Arizona—including their concert date at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines on February 6. Here is the band's statement on the matter (via their official Facebook page):

In life, the only constant is change. We try to embrace this in our music and in our lives, and it's in this spirit that we announce STS9 and bassist David Murphy are parting ways. We are postponing our upcoming winter tour dates through February. We'll miss David and wish him the best on his journey ahead.

To our fans, we can’t thank you enough for your understanding and continuous support. We are thrilled for the future of STS9 and can’t wait to share it with you.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!

—Hunter, Jeffree, Phipps & Zach

The band was forced to cancel a major portion of their winter tour back in 2011 so that Murphy could undergo cancer treatment. However, STS9 and Murphy have not indicated that health issues had anything to do with their parting. Here is David Murphy's official statement on the current situation (via Murphy's Facebook page):

It is with a very sad and heavy heart that I announce I am parting ways with STS9. While we have had an amazing experience together, our paths are taking us in different directions creatively and personally. My deepest apologies go out to all of our fans who have supported us through thick and thin. I will never be able to fully express my gratitude for everything y'all have given me. I wish STS9 the best and hope to see y'all down the road...I love y'all!

Refunds for the Hoyt Sherman concert will be available at the point of purchase. There has been no word yet from STS9 as to whether or not the band will try to re-book cancelled shows when a new bassist is found.
