On September 19th, Marie Atake a former Commissioner on the Board of L.A. Animal Services and Founder & President of Forte Animal Rescue will be walking in Strut Your Mutt at the Santa Monica Pier, with one of the rescued dogs, Susie, who is fighting cancer and looking for her forever home!
Susie the Dog was confiscated by animal control in South Gate May 10th, 2010 7:34 pm
Many people cannot forget this shocking CBS news clip about the criminal, who kept dogs in stacked-up crates, operating as a boarding kennel.
Forte Animal Rescue bailed out two of the 60 dogs animal control confiscated from him, Toby and Susie. Toby got adopted to a fabulous home, but things are not going in favor of Susie:
Susie was originally a family dog with two kids and another dog. One day, the husband walked away, and then the wife suddenly died. The husband took the children, but not the dogs. An 82-year old rescuer saved Susie and the other dog, but she was misled by this individuals fake kennel. Sadly, by the time the dogs were confiscated by SEAACA (Southeast Area Animal Control Authority), the other dog did not make it.
When Forte Animal Rescue picked up Susie from animal control, she was quite emaciated, but started blossoming under its care. Forte volunteers noticed some cysts on her skin. Taking her to an oncologist, 13 out of 14 of them were deemed mast cell tumors, but ultrasound showed none internally. Since Susie is such a good girl, she didn't even need to be sedated when her liver and spleen were aspirated.
The aspiration results came back negative, and the oncologist did not recommend surgery because the cells would likely come back. She's now on medication, and doing well so far.
After going through so much, Susie deserves to spend her golden years with happiness and joy. She needs help finding a foster home (or forever home is better!). Click here for more about Susie.
Susie is so grateful for everything life offers to her. She is tame, sweet and cuddly! If you are willing to open your heart and home to this gracious lady, contact Forte Animal Rescue at info@FARescue.org.
