Struggling restaurants get help from celebrity chef on new Food Network series

Fans of Food Network’s “Dinner: Impossible” will be excited to hear that Chef Robert Irvine will be hosting a new show on the channel scheduled to air beginning in January 2011.

The new series, entitled “Restaurant: Impossible” is a spin-off of the popular “Dinner: Impossible” Food Network show which takes Chef Irvine on cooking ‘missions’ which all involve a secret, spur-of-the moment location and a seemingly impossible task of preparing the required meals within a very short amount of time.

“Restaurant: Impossible” will feature Chef Irvine lending a helping hand to restaurants that are struggling and may be on the verge of closing.  He will mentor the restaurant owners on how to make improvements that will attract more customers and hopefully save their business.

Chef Irvine will spend a few days observing and critiquing the restaurant to find ways to improve the menu, concept, décor and design. He will then implement his new, fresh ideas for the business and work to improve the overall success of the restaurant.  Finally, there will be an opening night where all of Chef Irvine’s changes to the restaurant will be revealed.

The first candidate for “Restaurant: Impossible” will be the Flood Tide Restaurant in Mystic, CT. Flood Tide is noted for being one of the top restaurants in Connecticut, boasting a view of Long Island Sound from it’s hilltop location. The restaurant is a popular venue for upscale special occasion dining, but with the tough economic situation today, business has seen a dramatic decline.

The owner and staff are excited to have the opportunity to work with Chef Irvine and the Food Network crew. "They're way, way, way ahead of me, as far as being modern," said owner Jody Dyer. "I've been here at the Flood Tide for a long, long time. We try to run a very nice restaurant and do a nice job, and they will have a lot of critiques about us and I'll listen to them, because you can always learn something more."

Stay tuned to Food Network for more information on Chef Irvine’s new series. Also, be sure to follow him on FaceBook to keep up with his many adventures and day to day activities, including the taping of the new “Restaurant: Impossible” series.
