Strong second half propels Apple Valley Eagles over Blue Valley NW Bulldogs

The final game of the 2014 Timberwolves Shootout could be dubbed "The Valley Bowl" as Tyus Jones, who signed with Duke, scored 26 points to lead the Apple Valley Eagles to a 72-59 win over the Blue Valley Northwest Bulldogs of Overland Park, Kansas Saturday afternoon at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Dennis Austin put the Eagles on the scoreboard with a pair of free throws :36 into the game. Vince fritz evened the score at 2 for the Bulldogs and Apple Valley forged ahead on two scores from Brock Bertram and Tyus Jones made an outstanding pass to Gary Trent Jr. and he scored. Tyus Jones also scored on a pass from Robert Tobroxen. But Blue Valley was not singing the blues just yet. Dalton Schoen hit a three pointer to cut the lead to one and put in another shot from Hennepin Ave. Fritz tied the game at 20 and David Salach gave the Bulldogs the lead. Blue Valley NW led apple Valley 34-30 at the half.

The Bulldogs went on a 5-0 run to start the second half, including a three pointer from Ben Richardson. He would then score four straight points but that would be the only bright spot from Blue Valley NW in the second half as the game turned into "The Tyus Jones Show." On one possession, he sped down the floor and scored. He also brought the throng to his feet with a dunk. The Eagles put the game away with a 17-0 run that left the Bulldogs scoreless for more than eight minutes. Salath ended Apple Valley's run with 2:48 left and Blue Valley NW couldn't get back in the game.

Also scoring in double figures for the Eagles was Trent jr. with 17 points. Bertram added 10. Custer led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Fritz had 13 and Salach contributed 11.

Apple Valley remained unbeaten at 11-0. Blue valley NW, which had a number of games cancelled due to winter storms,fell to 2-1
