Strong penalty sought for woman who microwaved her kitten

A petition has garnered over 8,000 signatures in less than two days asking officials to prosecute Laura Cunliffe, of Hoyland, U.K. to the fullest extent of the law for tossing her young kitten into a microwave for five minutes as a punishment for attacking her pet goldfish.

According to Mail Online, Cunliffe, 23, pleaded guilty to cooking her four-month-old kitten named Mowgli and causing unnecessary suffering.

The kitten was still alive after Cunliffe microwaved the animal, but Mowgli suffered for another 90 minutes from radiation poisoning before she died.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) were informed about the egregious story and were able to track Cunliffe back as the owner of the kitten.

Chief deputy inspector of the RSPCA Lynsey Harris stated:

"It is particularly horrendous because of the period of suffering for the kitten which would have been awful...It is an horrific case in the fact that the death of the cat would have been prolonged and it is unimaginable what it would have gone through taking some time to die."

Cunliffe has a history of mental health problems. She is scheduled to be sentenced on March 13.

Rest in peace Mowgli. It is unimaginable the pain you must have endured.
