A magnitude 5.6 earthquake has rattled northern California on this Monday afternoon. The epicenter was centered about 6 miles from Weitchpec, California at a depth of 20.4 miles and was felt shortly after 1 PM local time.
Initial reports of light to moderate shaking are coming in from across northern California and southern Oregon according to the US Geological Survey.
No tsunami was generated by the quake that was about 30 miles northeast of Eureka, California and none will occur. Slight damage has been reported in the area, including dishes rattled or broken via the National Weather Service in Eureka, CA.
