Strong beer month comes to a close

Every February, 21st Amendment Brewing Company and Magnolia Gastropub and Brewery team up to host Strong Beer Month. Each local craft brewer creates six special limited-run beers that come in at more than 8 percent ABV, with a special offer: grab a glass of all 12 strong beers to receive a complimentary 2013 Strong Beer Month tulip glass.

Strong Beer Month is an annual opportunity for the head brewers at each location to create unique, one-off brews that showcase some of the best that craft brewing has to offer. Magnolia’s Promised Land Imperial I.P.A. is an explosion of hops and malts that overwhelms the palate, while Smokestack Lightning, an Imperial Stout, is more decadent than the richest chocolate cake.

21st Amendment’s Two-Lane Blacktop, described by a bartender at the brewery as an Imperialized version of their Back in Black Dark I.P.A., combines the roasty flavor of darker malts with the massive load of hops that is common to the India Pale Ale style.

Since Strong Beer Month is so popular, many styles sell out fast, but both breweries will continue to pour the strong beer until it runs out. After that, you’ll have to wait until next year!
