Fabricio Werdum won by decision against Antonio Silva.
Silva took the action hard to Werdum from the opening bell and decked Werdum with a combination. Silva tried some ground-and-pound but did not risk burning out trying to finish, instead opting to continue the fight standing for the balance of the round.
In the second round, Silva again showed patience, but perhaps too much. Werdum was active with a couple of takedowns into half-guard, the first time advancing the position and overall doing enough to have won the round.
In round three, Werdum seemed to get stronger as Silva’s pace slowed. Silva’s brute strength kept him out of submission danger, but he was not active enough as Werdum took the initiative on the feet and on the ground, ending the fight in top position delivering down blows in his best sequence of the fight.
It proved enough for Werdum to win a unanimous decision, 29-28 on all judges’ cards.
