A strike three call from an umpire is gaining a lot of buzz today. "Whoomp there it is" is what this umpires strike three call consists of and it is making a lot of people laugh when they view it for the first time. According to a post from Chris Chase of USA Today on Friday (Oct. 11), it was actually former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder who took the video.
There are a lot of umpires in baseball that give exaggerated calls when they are behind the plate. Many try to be original in how they display either emotion or hand signals to let everyone know that the pitcher has just struck out the batter. It has even been the source of jokes in movies like "The Naked Gun" and often it becomes a trademark or calling card for a given person.
This strike three call includes a lyric from a once famous song by the same title. Shouting out "Whoop there it is" after each punch out might be one of the most interesting to come along though. It has certainly grabbed the attention of people on the net, as the YouTube video is getting passed about faster than "Gangnam Style" was.
