The temperature may be reading close to zero with wind chill factors in the minus teens but there’s a warm front coming this weekend to Chicago. Strictly Sail - The Midwest’s premier all-sail boat show comes to the Navy Pier January 24 - 27, 2013. The nation’s largest all-sail indoor show features not only the latest in new boats and gear but free seminars from an impressive array of seasoned sailors, master classes from the guru of sailing Nigel Calder and a special video screening of “The Yacht OCEAN - A Rockumentary.”
Free hourly seminars sponsored by Blue Water Sailing Magazine will be offered throughout the entire show. Nigel Calder will be offering a free talk about “Lessons Learned Along the Way.” This is a humorous look at the excitement along the way. Want to learn more about navigation? Choose from topics ranging from essential concepts and publications to basic celestial navigation. Check the schedule to find whatever your hearts desires.
Nigel Calder has been sailing boats since a teenager. He and his wife Terrie have sailed in the North Sea and extensively in the Caribbean. Nigel is best known for his books Boatowner’s Mechanical and Electrical Manual, and his Marine Diesel Engines, both in their third editions, and both considered the definitive works in their field. He will be conducting three comprehensive 3.5 hours seminars on the following subjects:
- Hassle-free anchoring and docking and understanding chart accuracy
- DC systems design, installation, optimization and troubleshooting
- Do-it-yourself diesel engine maintenance, optimization and troubleshooting.
The cost of each course is $60/pp and includes the same day admission to the show. Pr-registration is required.

This high definition film will take you through the mountains of the continental divide, provide the view from atop her 100-foot mast and give you the exhilaration felt from the rail as she smokes by a competitor during a race. Watch all the action as rock pounding music pipes throughout your veins. The screening is free however a per-registration is needed.
Show hours are 11am to 8pm Thursday and Friday and 10am to 7pm Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available at the door. Discounted parking is available at the Navy Pier.
