Strict parole conditions await convicted child molester

Convicted child molester and ex-high school vice principal David Wadsworth will face a host of special conditions once he's released from prison.

David Wadsworth was sentenced to 40 months in prison back in July 2009 for producing, distributing and possessing kiddie porn. But under the conditions of the statutory release date, he's due to be released in the next few weeks or less. Wadsworth was declared a long-term offender to be monitored for ten years after leaving prison.

The National Parole Board, in a decision issued last week, says when Wadsworth gets out, the 56-year-old won't be allowed to use the Internet, to be around minors unless there's an adult around who knows about his criminal history, to associate with known criminals as well as drug dealers and prostitutes, or to have a relationship with anyone who has a child under 14 years. He must also tell his supervisor about any new romantic relationships and continue his therapy.

Wadsworth was arrested after police found he sent 45 child porn pictures to another pedophile in the U.K. and discovered more than 700 kiddie porn files on his computer. While awaiting sentencing, Wadsworth wrote a sexually explicit letter about a man sexually abusing a boy.

Wadsworth was first convicted in 2000 of sexually assaulting students at the Pincourt elementary school he taught at before becoming vice-principal at John Rennie High School in Pointe Claire.

The board says Wadsworth presents a high risk of re-offending. It goes on to say that despite completing sexual deviancy programs during his first prison term, Wadsworth re-offended with crimes involving children. The board says this demonstrates Wadsworth obviously still has progress to make and that it's concerned he tries to rationalize his offences and has a distorted vision of reality. The board says in Wadsworth's mind, the fact he didn't sexually assault a child makes the second conviction less serious.
