The fashion students at Mesa Community College have worked hard on their school projects and in producing the runway show. Ultimately, these students are working towards the goal of getting a degree and starting a career in the fashion industry. At MCC, both the students and instructors continue to learn and exercise practices related to the world of fashion.
One of the most recognized designers here in town is Angela Johnson, one of the fashion design instructors at MCC. She said that students started planning their designs for the runway show in the second week of the semester and it takes days for some of them to finish up some of the intricate details even after their initial garment is created. From Angela, the students get a real sense of the fashion industry. Not only does she provide the training necessary for clothing design, but she can also teach her students the essential real world experience that is needed to survive in the industry.
Angela Johnson is other wise well known for her eco-friendly t-shirt ball gowns. The process is unique, whether she has clients who want their favorite t-shirts turned into a gown or has them available on her online shop her materials are not new. Creating less waste and cutting out the usable fabric of an old worn out shirt to make a new garment. If you have several shirts with holes in it, give it to Angela and she will make something you can wear again.
