On Saturday, September 21, pastor Josh Williamson was arrested for "breach of the peace" in Perth, Scotland. According to Christian Concern, the pastor was held in custody over the weekend.
Apparently, locals were complaining about his public preaching on the street corner. Earlier, police had walked by the public preaching without a word. In fact, public preaching is not illegal in Scotland.
The event was recorded on video (here, about the six minute mark). The pastor also had a voice recorder for his protection and the protection of the police.
The police were requesting that he not speak loudly. While the police talked to him about the preaching they requested that the event not be recorded. He declined, claiming it legally permissible. The police then detained him for "breach of the peace."
This is the second time he has been arrested. As of this date, he has not been formally charged.
At the end of the day, the application of many other-wise acceptable laws is dependent upon the mindset of the populace. As the populace becomes more decadent, these types of laws will likely be applied more loosely.
Please pray for the pastor's legal protection and wisdom. And pray that the police will have a favorable impression of both the minister of the Gospel and the Gospel of the minister.
