What could be more adorable than stylish kids taking to the runway? It was a ‘petite’ version of Fashion Week as BONNIE YOUNG presented her Spring 2014 Collection at petitePARADE in New York City at the beginning of this month. This portion of Kids Fashion Week, sponsored by Vogue Bambini, took place on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Industria Super Studio located in the fashionable Meatpacking District.
Bonnie Young is one of the most popular global children’s luxury lifestyle designers, giving kids a reason to fall in love with fashion. Although the label was only established in 2006, it carries a strong following for the young at heart. Before she established her own brand, Young was best known as the Senior Creative Director for Donna Karan Collection. Her creativity blossomed as she helped Donna Karan develop the creative vision for the brand and stayed with Donna for 16 years.
Guests of this latest show on October 6th were all excited to get a glimpse at the newest collection that opens 2014 with images as fresh as a spring flower.
The inspiration behind this collection was Murakami and the street kids of Kyoto. Spring 2014 Collection is called “Street Couture”. Young fell in love with the Japanese kimonos and used her talent to translate these traditional garments into more wearable pieces. She did a new twist on streetwear with camouflage and sneakers shown in a couture sort of way. ”This season was about having fun with unexpected prints and mixing them in an unexpected way,” says Bonnie Young.
Subdued white gives a magical charm to the child that wears the pretty sheath or pleated skirt. Shooting stars designed within the fabric or as an applique on the outfit reminded us that it is all about the children and the whimsical imagination that they possess. Just like Mom’s wardrobe, the green leather dress will be a seasonal favorite for girls of all ages. Camouflage was dressed up and dressed down. High socks accompanied almost every outfit on the runway.
As with many of the shows during Fashion Week, this show had its share of celebrities too. Fatima Ptacek, actress and voice of “Dora The Explorer”, took to the runway along with Callie Reiff, 13 year-old fashionista and ballerina and Kyah Cahill, son of soccer player, Tim Cahill. Dad was proud as he watched from the audience. Other guests included Donna D’Cruz, Susan Fales-Hills, Jessie James Combs, D’Lila Star Combs and Chance Combs.
The Spring 2014 Collection was extremely well received by all. Bonnie Young’s collections are sold in 11 countries around the world which include Australia, France, Greece, Italy, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States. The flagship store is located in Aspen, Colorado. Retail partners include Harvey Nichols, Mercury Russia, Club 21 Singapore, Villa Moda and Bon Marche.
