Whether you or a loved one donned cap and gown last Sunday, December 20, to take part in the University of Michigan's Winter Commencement ceremonies at its Ann Arbor campus, or if you're simply interested in seeing what the pomp and circumstance was all about, the school has made available a video of the grand proceedings, which took place at Crisler Arena.
Entertainer Jeff Daniels was the featured speaker, and not only did he offer words of wisdom to the assembled students, he also brought along his guitar for a moving turn on "The Michigan in Me." Daniels received an honorary doctorate of fine arts for his ongoing contributions to his home state, and later spoke at a press conference about the positive impact the film industry is having on Michigan. Journalist Helen Thomas also received an honorary degree, as did biologist Edward Osborne Wilson and social activist Grace Lee Boggs.
