Tuesday’s high of 72 degrees was about 5 degrees below normal for Rockford. This marked the 5 consecutive below normal day. That streak will end Wednesday as warmer, more humid air will impact the region starting Wednesday afternoon and lasting through Thursday.
Wednesday started off cloudy with some scattered showers and thunderstorms in spots. Clearing is expected later in the day Wednesday as a warm front pushes through the region. This will allow temperatures to warm up to near 80. The day will also feature increasing dew points, which will start to make the air feel quite muggy and humid for this time of the year. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms exists overnight tonight and into the early morning hours of Thursday.
Thursday could start a little cloudy and rainy, but skies should clear by the late morning and early afternoon hours. Strong southerly winds will push temperatures well into the 80s tomorrow area wide, with some spots reaching the upper 80s, south of the area and areas that receive more sun.
A cold front will start to approach the area later Thursday and into Friday morning. Out ahead of it showers and thunderstorms will develop and push through the area very late Thursday and during the first half of the day Friday. The Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma has outlooked the area for a slight risk of severe thunderstorms. The main threats would be large hail, damaging winds, and heavy downpours. Behind the cold front, the winds will switch to the north and skies will clear by later Friday. This will usher in below normal temperatures and drier conditions just in time of the weekend.
The overall weather pattern across much of North America is pretty progressive and a trough of low pressure will start to form over the western U.S next week. As this happens a ridge will build into our region through much of next week. Next week will start off slightly below normal, before temperatures rebound again well into the 70s to near 80 for the back half of next week, before another, stronger system could affect the area to end next week and start next weekend.
