Spring is a time for new beginnings and for a small white curly-haired stray dog it also means getting a new home.
When the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team began Spring Training in Arizona this season, third base coach Ed Sedar found a small dog that was a matted mess. Sedar also noticed that there were “tire marks on his fur”, suggesting that he may have been hit by a car.
Despite his ordeal, the white and grey mixed breed was friendly and stole the hearts of the team’s players with his spunky personality and desire to please. It didn’t take long for the dog to become an official member of the team as their new mascot.
Where he came from my always be a mystery, but where he will live out his life is not.
The dog was named Hank, after baseball great Hank Aaron.
Not many stray dogs are as fortunate as Hank. Pet abandonment and animal shelter euthanasia is a nationwide problem, much of which can be avoided with responsible pet ownership that includes spaying and neutering.
Don’t be deterred by myths about spaying and neutering and be part of the most humane solution to pet overpopulation.
