The Metropolis Klout Spring Social, held in Vancouver on March 8, 2014 at Metrotown, modeled the latest strategy in influencer marketing by bringing together key social media influencers with top brands like Purdy’s Chocolates, Nars Cosmetics, L’Occitane, and Benefit Cosmetics.
With content marketing steadily on the rise, smart brands are directing more attention to building relationships with social media influencers and finding ways to empower them to create visibility for their products or services.
The recent shopping social in Vancouver was by invite only to select Klout influencers, who were presented with a party-style event, complete with DJ booth, over $3,000 in raffle prizes, sweet treats, food samples, and a spring trends presentation that featured styles from Metropolis Metrotown clothing retailers.
Klout.com, a site that measures a user’s influence on various social media platforms, actively celebrates online influencers through their Klout Perks program based on users Klout rating. According to the site, the purpose of the Klout Perks program is to connect brands worldwide with influential content creators to create authentic earned media.
Building experiences to inspire social sharing
The Metropolis Klout Spring Social is an example of how brands are starting to engage online influencers by building an experience around them that is worthy of sharing. By finding out what inspires and motivates content influencers, brands can leverage their interests, social media habits and lifestyle trends to create compelling events and content that inspires social sharing.
Twitter was a-buzz before, during and after the event, as invited influencers shared their excitement online:
“Excited! I'm going to #METROPOLISxKLOUT Spring Social event @metropolisatmet!”
“@KloutPerks @klout @MetropolisatMet hanging out at a private function at Metropolis at Metrotown. Great music! Fantastic people!!”
"Huge thanks to @klout & @MetropolisatMet for the fantastic evening at #METROPOLISxKLOUT! Great event, good ppl & amazing prizes. Thx again!”
The Metropolis Klout Spring Social was the first Klout event in Canada and seemed to be an overall success for all involved.
“It was excellent,” said Metropolis Marketing Director, Judy Black. “We’re so glad we were able to accommodate Klout for this event. It was an opportunity to celebrate our Klout readers and writers, introduce our new MetStylist.com app, and showcase some of our retailers that people might not be aware of...If Klout decides to continue with this event next year, we would be more than happy to host it again.”
