The Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok announced the date for the 6th "Cancer Care Charity Fun Run" at a press conference held at their luxurious property on 9 Feb 2013. This highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place in Lumpini Park on Saturday, 23 February at 07:00 hours. Everyone is encouraged to come out and participate in this event that is tailor made for families, joggers, and everyday people at any health level. "This promises to be a fun day for a great cause" shared Mr. Rami Sayess, the Regional Vice President and General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok. There will be both a 5 km and 10 km route and you are invited to participate in the run with a minimum donation of $11.74USD (350Baht) which includes an official ‘Cancer Care’ T-shirt, or $16.77USD (500Baht) which includes an official ‘Cancer Care’ polo shirt. In addition, a breakfast box is provided and the chance to win exciting prizes such as accommodation vouchers at various Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. Families with young children, as well as the elderly, are welcome to participate and various activities and prizes are lined up for all kids who get involved. This year will be the first year that equal prizes will be awarded to the first man and women who crosses the finish line. Registration is at 07:00 until 07:45 and the official starting time of the run is at 08:05. "We encourage you to come and participate, whether you run, walk, roll or stroll" stated Philip Calvert, the Ambassador of Canada and one of the major sponsors of the event.
This is the sixth year the run has been going under the name ‘Cancer Care Fun Run’ as it was previously called the Terry Fox Run which was inspired by the internationally renowned story of a Canadian cancer patient who succumbed to cancer in his attempt to run across North America with one leg. It has been 19 years that the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok has hosted this event with their sister properties in Chiang Mai and Koh Samui. The ongoing support of their various sponsors has allowed them to raise an astonishing 27million baht over the years. Last year’s run had approximately 3,000 runners participate and successfully raised 3.7 million baht; and this year they are hoping to raise even more. "Cancer is something that touches everyone, either directly or indirectly. The goal is to raise funds for cancer research" said Philip Calvert. Along with the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, this year's fun run is supported by the Thai Red Cross Society and the Canadian Embassy, as well as major sponsors such as B.Grimm, Ananda Development Public Co., Ltd., Boonrawd Brewery (Singha), and media partners such as Bangkok 101, BK Magazine, Hello Magazine, Masala Magazine and Thailand Panorama Magazine. Other sponsors this year include Starbucks, Santa Fe and FIT Thailand. All proceeds from the run will go towards the research projects currently conducted by the ‘Hematological Cancer Research Centre’ at Chulalongkorn Hospital.
