Strangleroot Geist (Dark Ascension) uncommon card review (Photos)

Strangleroot Geist is a powerful new uncommon green creature from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert Magic: the Gathering expansion set Dark Ascension, and showcases one of the set's newest mechanics: Undying.

Undying (When this creature dies, if it had no +1/+1 counters on it, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control with a +1/+1 counter on it.)
Geists of the hanged often haunt the tree on which they died.

2/1

Dark Ascension's Strangleroot Geist is cheaper to cast than Kitchen Finks, and although Strangleroot Geist won't help you live longer instead it'll strike out on the offense quick thanks to Haste.

What makes Undying such an interesting mechanic is that when Strangleroot Geist dies it gets stronger, unlike persist creatures that shrink. That +1/+1 counter makes any creature with Undying a larger and more lethal threat to handle.

Strangleroot Geist, along with any other creature that features Undying, makes an excellent inclusion in any Commander deck running Ghave, Guru of Spores. That's because you'll be able to remove the +1/+1 counters and keep them on the battlefield.

How will you abuse Strangleroot Geist from Dark Ascension?

Dark Ascension is the second set of three in the Innistrad block. Dark Ascension will contain 158 cards, and be released on February 3, 2012.

Dark Ascension Prerelease events will occur on January 28-29, 2012. There will be Dark Ascension Launch Parties on February 3-6, 2012. The Dark Ascension Game Day will be on March 3-4, 2012.

Dark Ascension is followed by Avacyn Restored.
