Community Empowerment Series
Childhood sexual abuse survivor turned author, speaker, child advocate and activist Erin Merryn is the founder and president of Erin's Law.

February is also the month that is recognized as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, which is very important.

Erin Merryn is an author and the champion of Erin's Law (#ERINSLAW). As a child advocate she is determined that all 50 states pass Erin's Law to give children a voice and fighting chance against sexual abuse.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Erin Merryn said, "We teach our kids tornado drills, fire drills, bus drills, yet nothing about sexual abuse."

We often hear about stranger danger, however statistics show that most children that are molested are not attacked by strangers at all.

According to RAINN:

  • 34.2% of attackers were family members.
  • 58.7% were acquaintances.
  • Only 7% of the perpetrators were strangers to the victim.

Erin Merryn herself, was abused by a relative and knows how it feels not to have an escape. She is now going to make sure that not another child has to silently suffer, if she can help it, through her mission to educate and inform schools, parents and students about prevention programs.

The Community Empowerment Series is featuring Florida's leading sex crimes against children State Attorney and children's book author, Stacey Honowitz, on Saturday March 29th. She will be a keynote speaker and will be discussing the important topics of sexual abuse prevention, good touch verse bad touch, breaking the ice to have the conversation --- which is not always easy, as well as how to report sex crimes in our state.

This is a FREE event, registration is now open online. Save the date, invite your friends and family.
