‘Stranded’: Dark shadows adds spookiness to Seaview Terrace

Three young New Yorker’s found themselves stranded in the haunted Seaview Terrace in Newport, RI on the second episode of Josh Gates’ “Stranded”. The show aired March 6 and followed the participants as they spent five days on site with no means of contact with the outside world.

Ripe with tales of paranormal activity that range from the ghost of the late Mrs. Bradley who likes to play the pipe organ - made eerie by the fact that the organ no longer exists, the apparition if little girls and eerie footsteps in the night, the haunted Seaview Terrace provided the perfect setting for this episode of “Stranded”.

If viewers had the uncanny feeling they had seen the haunted mansion before, that is because they have. The outside of the Seaview Terrace was used as a stand in for Collinwood in the creepy gothic soap opera “Dark Shadows” in the late 60s and early 70s.

The three New Yorkers proved to be both intelligent and likable as they set off on their first task of finding fuses to give themselves some light. Although the only room with working lights turned out to be the kitchen, the trio managed to search the eerie basement to locate fuses.

The trio proved to be methodical in their approach to investigating the haunted Seaview Terrace and resisted the urge to overreact to every bump in the night. They did however experience the sound of a pipe organ playing, catch a door opening and closing on its own on film, observe a mysterious light in an unoccupied room and encounter a ghostly force that threw open the front door during a raging storm.

Although initial thoughts were that the door was forced open by the wind, the bolt lock was still extended, leaving the nerve-wracked trio to question how that was even possible.

These young New Yorkers showed courage and common sense as they explored the haunted Seaview Terrace.
