Straight to Ale to begin canning in the near future

It looks like another Alabama brewery might begin canning very soon.  I have heard rumors of its existence, and now I have finally tracked down the can artwork (pictured on the left) for Straight to Ale's Monkeynaut India Pale Ale

It makes sense that Monkeynaut will be the first Straight to Ale beer to see cans since it is their flagship brew and has grown wildly popular over the last year.  If you have yet tried this beer, here is Straight to Ale's description of both the beer and the story behind the name:

"Albert. Able. Gordo. Miss Baker. Bonny. Goliath. Between 1948 and 1961 these primate pioneers and others bravely went where no man had ever gone before, paving the way for manned U.S. spaceflight. This hoppy little monkey of a beer is a tribute to those Simian heroes of yesteryear. It has a citrusy, floral hop aroma, a strong malt body and a crisp finish."

If that does not spark your interest, you can take my word when I say that Monkeynaut truly is one of the best representations of the IPA style being produced in the South today.

I find it both great and amazing that the brewery artwork is making it onto the cans since it is so elaborate and colorful.  These cans will definitely be the most eye catching brews on shelves once they hit production.  As far as a date for production to begin, there is not one set in stone as of yet.  The best I can do is pass on a posting on Straight to Ale's Facebook where they said they are "still looking at April for the cans".

So, the good news is that Straight to Ale has started to process to begin putting Monkeynaut and other beers on store shelves soon.  The bad news is that we just need to wait a little while longer.  With that said, you can find Monkeynaut and other Straight to Ale offerings on draft pretty easily in the Huntsville and Birmingham markets, and also in a few new areas like Calhoun County.  You can also visit the new Straight to Ale taproom (3200 Leeman Ferry Road, Huntsville) that is currently open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 3 pm to 8 pm for your drinking pleasure.  That gives you plenty of options to get you by until the canning begins.  I will of course keep you posted when more information becomes available.  Prost!
