Straight to Ale

Straight to Ale (Huntsville, Alabama) has added another option to their selection of packaged year-round offerings this week with the debut of Brother Joseph's Belgian-style Dubbel in cans.

Brother Joseph's Dubbel (also lovingly known as Bro Jo) has been a long standing year-round and fan favorite for Straight to Ale, but the upfront costs of getting a craft beer into a can delayed this brew a bit in finding its way to packaging. The good news is that the wait is finally over and Bro Jo has some sweet, new aluminum digs. Joining Monkeynaut IPA, Lily Flagg Milk Stout and Sand Island Light House Kölsch, Brother Joseph's Dubbel is now the brewery's fourth offering available in cans.

Named after the Benedictine monk who built the Ave Maria Grotto in Cullman, Brother Joseph's Dubbel is an Abbey-style Brown Ale that weighs in at 8% ABV. Although it might be a bigger beer that boasts rich notes of dark fruit, this Dubbel remains easily approachable for craft beer novices and connoisseurs alike. For more information on the story of Brother Joseph and this tasty brew, here is the full brewery description for Brother Joseph's Dubbel:

Maimed in an accident that left him with a hunched back, Brother Joseph Zoettl worked in the St. Bernard Abbey power plant shoveling coal. In his spare time, Brother Joseph used found objects such as marbles and chunks of concrete and tile to build miniature shrines and buildings on the Abbey grounds. Over 40 years, he created 125 different models and replicas.

Today, the Ave Maria Grotto covers three acres and is world-renowned as both a fun roadside attraction and an awe-inspiring collection of folk art. We have named our Belgian dubbel after Brother Joseph as a testament to his perseverance, his hard work, and his indomitable spirit. A full-flavored abbey-style ale with a complex taste and aroma, Brother Joseph’s Dubbel is filled with specialty malt and dark fruit character.

Brother Joseph's is available now in six-packs of 12 oz. cans. Huntsville area establishments Wish You Were Beer and Liquor Express have already reported on social media that they have received their first shipments of Bro Jo cans, and locally owned and chain grocery stores in the area are expected to receive their shipments soon. Since this is a year-round offering, there is no need to panic as these cans will make it to other areas in Straight to Ale's distribution footprint in due time. **UPDATE**According to their Facebook page, the Piggly Wiggly in Homewood has also received cans of Bro Jo.**UPDATE** Until then, you can always pick up a growler or have a pint on draft wherever you normally find Straight to Ale products. Prost!
