Kelen Heller has been making waves in the scene since 2009, but 2012 seemed to be the kickoff of their world domination scheme. Having already made two music videos, recorded with a platinum record producer and successfully completed their first wide-scale tour, the men of Kelen Heller (KH) are only just getting started. Bassist Brandon Moore joined the band in late 2012 and is no stranger to the stage lights. His previous stints in other upstate band, especially A Vacant Soul, had already prepped him for the clamor and glam of performance life. Examiner.com recently got a chance to catch up with Moore, nicknamed “Silky” for his luxurious Nikki Sixx-esqe ‘do, and chat with him about KH’s recent tour, band relations and what’s up next for this regional supergroup on the rise.
How would you summarize your tour experiences?
BM: It was great! Meeting new people and spreading the KH name and music to as many as possible is our ultimate goal.
What did you guys hope to accomplish from touring?
BM: We wanted to set little fires everywhere we went, lol. Hopefully whenever we return, we will see more and more people knowing who we are, and coming to shows. Its hard playing out of your known area for the first time, but I feel like we def made an impact and got people talking.
How did other crowds seem to respond to you guys?
BM: We had excellent feedback from everyone, especially for going to places we had never been. It was cool to walk into some of these venues where nobody has ever seen us, and they are calling us all by name, singing our songs, and know everything about us...that was extremely shocking and flattering at the same time. We also had many people take care of us and buy us food, drinks, give us extra gas money, and buy tons of merch to help us.
What was it like being on so long together?
BM: We didn't want to come back, lol!! I think the last week of the tour everyone was kinda bummed that it was winding down, but we get to look forward to going back out very soon.
Did you learn anything new about your bandmates on the road?
BM: You def learn everyone's daily routines that you don't normally see them do...and if people only knew the odd habits Efrum has, haha!
What was one of the strangest things you saw on tour?
BM: We had a "little guy" get on stage with us at a festival. He stole the show from us, it was hilarious! Thanks Clyde!!
How do you prep for a show?
BM: Usually get dressed, stretch, maybe play bass if i have a moment; then, I like to go hang out at the merch booth and talk with everyone.
What is one thing you learned you learned on the road?
BM: Efrum snores....loudly.
Do you remember your first concert?
BM: My first real concert was KISS...that show changed my life.
How has this experience changed you ( personally or professionally)?
BM: It only makes me work harder, and want success even more. Its a blessing to be apart of something like this band, especially when you believe.
What else is on the horizon for KH?
BM: Another tour and new music is coming very soon!
