It happens to the best of us, when we form crushes on a straight guy; which leaves us forever in the "friend zone". So how do we handle these types of situations? How can we resolve the issue and get rid of the obsessive crush?
Whether you're gay or straight, chances are you've had a crush on someone. Unfortunately, when it comes to gay people, sometimes their crush has a different sexual orientation, which makes it impossible for it to ever work out.
Why do we have straight crushes? Could it be that, because an estimated 10 percent of the population is gay, we have a 1 in 10 chance of ending up being attracted to a gay person and a 9 in 10 chance of falling for someone straight?
Straight crushes only get reinforced and only get worse when we start spotting 'signs' our friend might be gay or bisexual. You might start convincing yourself that when he texts you "hey, wanna hang out?" he must be hitting on you.
Sometimes you might feel the need to share your feelings with him, however, studies indicate that often ruins the friendship. However, in my case it didn't. I used to have a crush on one of my best friends. Although I never told him, someone else did. What did he do when he found out? He was flattered! Hey, a compliment is a compliment, right?
Anyway, there are numerous ways to get over your straight crush, which is wise to do since it obviously can't go anywhere. What worked for me was finding all their little flaws and thinking of them whenever I thought of that person. Soon enough, I got over it. Simple as that. Remember that time when you were mad at them? Don't let that go...think of it, and keep thinking of it.
Chances are, most straight dudes won't be as flattered and understanding as my friend, so you should probably just keep it to yourself until you're over it. I mean really over it...don't hold on to the little hope you have left that he might be gay or bisexual. He's not. He's definitely not. Even though he wore that totally gay shirt, he's still not.
