YouTube offers users a wealth of opportunities for entertainment and educational opportunities. Therefore, parents who homeschool frequently benefit from using online systems to enhance their children’s curriculum and overall knowledge. Instilling a love for reading into the hearts and minds of youngsters is one of the most important things any educator can do and YouTube can greatly assist in this endeavor. One of the most interesting and educational channels on Youtube is called “Storyline Online.”

Storyline Online is a YouTube Channel that is controlled by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Foundation that has been dedicated to promoting childhood literacy since 1993. YouTube’s Storyline Online channel gives viewers a chance to have a famous actor or actress read them a children’s book, fully equipped with all the pictures and even some minor animation. The experience of listening to a professional actor or actress read a story with emotion adds to the enjoyment of listening to a true storyteller’s tale.

The channel can be access 24 hours a day 7 days a week and so every child with Internet access can listen to the stories whenever they want and as much as they want. Currently there are 26 videos on the channel and surely more to be added soon. Additionally, Storyline Online also has its own website where additional information and books can be found. According to the official website:

“Reading to children has been repeatedly shown to improve their reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking, concentration and general academic aptitude… as well as inspire a love of reading. The Screen Actors Guild Foundation records well-known actors reading children’s books and makes graphically dynamic videos so that children around the world can be read to with just the click of a Storyline Online video book image. Many teachers play SAG Foundation’s Storyline Online videos for their students. Doctors and nurses play Storyline Online videos for children in hospitals. And parents and children around the world watch Storyline Online videos millions of times every month.”
