Odie is an incredibly great dog despite his sad past…
He was hit by a car when he was about 2 months old. A Good Samaritan who saw it happen in front of her eyes picked him up and took him to the nearby animal control. When she called the pound to see how he was doing, she was horrified to learn that they had not given him any medical treatment because they were going to euthanize him.
It was only when she said she would adopt him that the pound gave him the needed medical care. He escaped death twice in such a short period of time, and he was only a baby.
He grew up to be a wonderful dog, but life took a bad turn for the Good Samaritan. With a husband and two small children, she lost her job and had to move in with her grandparents, who would not allow Odie to come inside the house or even be seen in the neighborhood, as if she was ashamed to have a dog in her house.
Odie spent the next two years in a kennel in the backyard. No walk, no play time, nothing. For two years.
The Good Samaritan was heartbroken for Odie and has been looking for a new home that would give him the good life he so deserves, but to no avail.
She eventually found Forte Animal Rescue, and reached out for help. After learning what he has gone through, Forte took him under its wing, and Odie is now in a foster home (with a canine foster brother!). But Odie needs his permanent home, so that Forte’s foster can house another dog and they can get to save another life.
Despite his harsh past, Odie is a remarkably well-balanced dog. He is good with children, dogs and even cats. He’s always grateful and keeps a soft smile on his face no matter what is presented in his path.
