Severe lightning, flash flooding and high wind gusts. It's not how anyone planned to spend the July 4th holiday . Many people take off the entire week. A hurricane blowing out in the Atlantic is not helping matters either. Lightning is being blamed for destroying an apartment building in Levittown. . That link to Levittown Now can give you more info on the fire. Four families are homeless and Red Paw was called in for displaced cats. If you can help foster those cats (or other animals) Red Paw would like to hear from you. The first week of July,2014 is not what people were hoping for. The days leading up to the fourth have been brutal, with multiple power outages being reported.

At the same time firefighters in Levittown were taking care of that fire, a single family house went up in flames in Bensalem Fire Police were busy with trees and wires down ,closing roads and detouring traffic. in the city things were not calm either.

The wet weather and unpredictable water level has caused many towns to post pone or out right cancel parades and fireworks displays. In Pottstown, the parade today is off. Fireworks are still on. many people question why would you cancel fireworks with the ground being wet. The thinking is the wet ground makes it safer. Yes, but if the atmosphere is dense with humidity, it will keep the smoke from fireworks in the air longer and that makes it harder to see and too much smoke makes it harder for some folks to breathe. And besides, who wants to sit on the wet ground anyway?

With Hurricane Arthur out to sea so to speak we are spared from a direct hit. That does not mean one of the outer bands filled with water or high wind gusts will not cause damage. If you are unsure if your planned activities are on or have been canceled,it's best to call ahead to the local police non emergency number. They can tell you of the fireworks are on, or when the parade has been rescheduled.
