Stormbreath Dragon is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 4, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an article by Luis Scott-Vargas on ChannelFireball.com. Stormbreath Dragon is a powerful red mythic rare creature that fills the void left by Thundermaw Hellkite rotating out.
Stormbreath Dragon - 3RR
Creature - Dragon (Mythic Rare)
Flying, haste, protection from white
5RR: Monstrosity 3. (If this creature isn't monstrous, put three +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes monstrous.)
When Stormbreath Dragon becomes monstrous, it deals damage to each opponent equal to the number of cards in that player's hand.
Stormbreath Dragon dodges some of the format's more commonly played removal like Chained to the Rocks, Warleader's Helix, and Detention Sphere. Scott-Vargas points out that Stormbreath Dragon can ward off Archangel of Thune, however there's other nasty white flyers that may soon become more relevant: Sigarda, Host of Herons, Angel of Serenity, Aurelia, the Warleader, and Isperia Supreme Judge.
While Stormbreath Dragon's monstrosity cost may seem high, it's not out of the realm of possibility with cards like Xenagos, the Reveler and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Even without mana ramp, you'll be able to activate Stormbreath Dragon should your game run long. So your opponent thinks they can get away with Sphinx's Revelation? Not between Skullcrack and Stormbreath Dragon.
How will you use Stormbreath Dragon?
