Full Details of the crib recall from Health Canada's website.
This recall is for drop-side cribs with plastic hardware.
Health Canada's notice says, in part:
"In Canada, there have been 3 reports of entrapment and 8 reports of falls from these cribs. There have also been 32 other reported incidents related to broken plastic drop-side hardware.
In the United States, there have been 12 reports of entrapments, including 4 incidents of suffocation, and 12 reports of falls from these cribs. There have also been 43 other reported incidents related to broken plastic drop-side hardware."
Health Canada has a complete Crib Safety Booklet on their website, as well as a page called Consumer Information, Safe Sleep Practices for Infants. Although cribs have been recalled from time to time, Health Canada says, "The safest place for an infant to sleep is alone in a crib."
Health Canada gives Stork Craft's phone number, 1-877-274-0277 and website, as contacts for further information. TheStar.com in an exclusive report says the phone number has been busy today, and that the Richmond, B.C. company was caught off-guard by an early release of this recall. The Star's article has details from Stork Craft about how to find and email the necessary information to the company to get a free repair kit.
The Star's report indicates that Stork Craft's blog has the information as well. On twitter.com, Stork Craft (twitter.com/StorkCraft) is assuring customers they will provide the repair kits as soon as possible, and that "repair kits are here and will be shipped out in priority sequence".
The CBC.ca says this is the largest crib recall in U.S. history.
