Stories of courage and international cooperation in preventing violence (Video)

With pockets of people still talking about the school shootings, along with the armchair suggestions for preventing another tragic day like the one last month, in Newtown, CT, there are cases where school shootings have been thwarted. This is certainly news that has a better ring to the ears and gives hope that possibly something can be done to prevent loss of life in schools.

According to MSN Canada, Toronto police help thwart Arizona school shooting plot, a young Mesa, Arizona girl (who was also a student teacher), started to write out her plot to shoot fellow students and destroy the school. She wrote the summary of her plot on a YouTube comment and the channel owners contacted their police department, in Toronto, who then contacted Maricopa county in Arizona. The 16 yr old admitted to it.

Closer to home, in Bakersfield, a brave teacher talks down a student gunman, while getting the students to safety. The calmness of this teacher, while multi-tasking safety and prevention is no less than courage at its best. ABC news reports, Hero Teacher Talks Shooter into Dropping Gun.

The question remains, and answers vary, of what can be done to prevent school shootings. Sadly, in both of the cases listed above, one has to wonder if the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting had anything to do with these potential shooters taking that next step. But, at the same time, one can be thankful that the right people were in the right place at the right time, be it a YouTube Channel owner paying attention to his or her comment feed, or a teacher practicing calmness, courage, and negotiation skills in potentially saving the lives of many high schoolers.
