On Friday night's first episode of “Storage Wars: New York,” the auction takes place in Brooklyn, N.Y., in this episode titled, “East River Gold.” The main characters as introduced are; the Legend (Joe P), the Loudmouth (Chris) and the Conscience (Tad), the Flame (Candy) and the Firecracker (Courtney) and the Hustler (Mike) with the familiar theme song "Money Owns This Town" played with a different beat.
The regulars visited Storage Mart in the heart of downtown Brooklyn. John Luke knows that there are lots of younger people with money here and expects to see some good stuff. Mike is looking for boxes with fragile on them and jewelry. Chris and Tad will be searching for both high and low end merchandise. Joe P will be searching out just high end stuff and must be on guard as the competition will be rough. Candy & Courtney are looking hot in their outfits, which should cause a distraction to the other bidders. To add to the annoyance of the regulars, is Big Steve, a looming presence with a take-no-prisoners attitude.
The first unit has furniture and various items that are covered up, so guessing takes a big part of the decision to bid. As the bidding progresses, Big Steve was warned that he should not slam his hand on the doors; as his presence and loud voice are enough. Steve won this one for $900. He found a bar, poker table, construction materials and even a metal detector that he checks out to find its worth. It turned out that it was just about new and was an underwater machine worth $800.
The second one is a room full of garbage bags. The regulars shudder and think again. Candy wants to take a chance, but Courtney has her druthers and believes that the tight animal print dress Candy is wearing is cutting off circulation to her usual rational brain. Steve believes that it is the remnants of a flea market vendor that went out of business. Chris & Tad know that Steve wants it and attempts to bid him up, but Chris gets carried away and gets it for $550 and a smack in the head from Tad. They did manage to find a steam cleaning machine that they used to clean a sidewalk. It was made in Italy in 2008, but it was beaten up from use, but worth $1,200.
The last room of the day provides the bidders with lots of furniture, shipping barrels, plastic bins and conflict. As Big Steven continues to push his way through, Chris & Tad are not putting up with his arrogance, and they are fighting back. Mike is loving this as he stays out of the war zone. The bidding proceeds and Joe P and Steve get into the mix, but Joe P gets it for $1,100. The perusal of the bin finds lots of good items. He found plenty of items ready to be sold and inside a purse, a bottle of an alcoholic concoction with gold flecks attached to a wheel with the name Bols on it. Joe found out that it was from the oldest spirit company throughout the world, dating back to the 1500s. The wheel contained several different liqueurs from the 1960s, but although it contained much of the product, it was only worth about $100.
In the end, Steve made $740; Chris & Tad made $680; Candy & Courtney and Mike B left with nothing, but Joe P lost $680 on this episode of "Storage Wars: New York."
